In the 1980s and 1990s, many families built summer homes in the area. Nowadays, Kavouri is not only a holiday destination but also a place to live all year round, and it has two of the few free beaches near Athens, with a small section reserved for sunbeds. Kavouri is one of the five most expensive areas in Athens and Greece as a whole.
